Biggest Online Dating Mistakes By Men

Online dating can be tough, but if done properly it creates opportunities for making connections with people you otherwise would never have met. Women have the chance to be much more picky with who they message or agree to meet from an online dating site, so make sure you are innocent of these common mistakes that men make on dating websites:

1. Blending in with the masses: Trust me, women with an online dating profile are receiving many more messages and winks than any man on the same site. Make sure your profile reflects your true self, but also your best self. Be honest and interesting. Write about whatever makes you different than most of the guys on the website; what weird or cool hobbies do you have? Why would she remember you if you met in real life? An effective dating profile conveys that all-important first impression with text and pictures alone, which gives you the chance to really make a great impression and show off your good side—if it’s done right.

2. Obscured Profile Photo: If your profile picture looks like you’re trying to hide from the paparazzi, or you refuse to show your full face to the camera, she is going to get suspicious. Even if you’re extremely attractive and think you’re picture displays your ‘artistic side’, you’ll get much better results with a straight forward head or full body shot. Don’t be too mysterious, if you end up arranging a date with someone you met online, the whole thing will be much easier if both parties know who they are looking for at the meeting spot and what to expect. Also, don’t use an outdated photo! That is false advertising and bad for everyone.

3. Creepy Personal Messages: Nothing will get you blocked faster than an unwarranted sexual message to a stranger. If you think it’s charming to comment provocatively on a woman’s appearance before you’ve had any previous conversations, she is likely not going to respond. Even if she is flattered by your compliments, most women respond more positively to someone who takes the time to read their profile and can mention something relevant to her interests in their first message. Your initial contact shouldn’t involved giving her your phone number or home address either.

4. Boring Personal Messages: Not quite as bad as a creepy personal message, dull messages can also turn a lady off. Spend two seconds thinking of an original subject line instead of sending your first message with the title ‘hey’ or ‘what’s up’. Get a conversation going by either asking questions about something you saw on her profile or anything you think you might have in common. Give her a reason to respond to you by saying something striking.
